The National Institute on Early Education Research has released “The State of Preschool 2010″. This report is the eighth in a series of annual reports profiling state-funded prekindergarten programs in the United States. This latest Yearbook presents data on state-funded prekindergarten during the 2009-2010 school year and examines three key features of each state pre-K initiative: access, quality standards, and resources.
According to this report, state spending on Pre-K decreased for the first time in eight years of reporting; there has been forward progress in quality, although standards continue to vary greatly from state to state; and 4-year-old enrollment increased slightly nationally while access for 3-year-olds decreased.
As for Ohio, there were reductions in both percent of state population enrolled and state spending per child, and Ohio met two out of the ten Quality Benchmarks measured by the National Institute on Early Education Research.

REGISTRATION MATERIALS ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE 2011 REGION V HEAD START CONFERENCE
“As the national direction for Head Start continues to change and grow, all of Head Start’s leaders must change and grow in response.”
Head Start has always been a dynamic and fluid program, changing with the growing needs of the families we serve. We have seen more and more challenging opportunities as we moved into the twenty-first century. As these challenges grow, program leadership must grow and staff must be prepared to bring a world class early childhood experience to our nation’s most vulnerable children.
The 2011 Region V Head Start Conference, hosted by the Ohio Head Start Association in partnership with the Region V Head Start Association, continues the enhanced and expanded training efforts begun in Region V in 2009 focusing on Leadership Challenges. This event will expand upon the efforts endorsed by the Office of Head Start and will provide a Head Start leadership foundation of national proportions.
When: October 31 – November 3, 2011
Where: Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers
This event is planned to help build leadership skills at every level of the Head Start organization. This event will provide intensive, practical and advanced level learning to enhance the professional development levels of Head Start Parents, Staff and Administrators.
