Applications for Mary T. Patterson Scholarship due March 25th

The Mary T. Patterson scholarship (up to $500) is awarded to a former Head Start child who is a high school senior or high school graduate to support their pursuit of higher education.  This may include college, a certification program, or any training that will increase the applicant’s educational and employment opportunities.

In addition, the Ohio Head Start Association awards two additional scholarships ($100 each) in memory of Oscar B. Griffith, Jr.   All scholarships will be presented at the OHSAI June Leadership Conference.

Recruiting for APPLE:Ohio Project

EC Q-Net is recruiting for the Fall 2012 Cohort  for APPLE:Ohio (Assessing Preschool Professionals’ Learning Experiences). This study will help determine the impact of professional development on early childhood teaching and learning.

The Roots of Parent, Family and Community Engagement

March 14-16, 2012

Embassy Suites Dublin, Columbus, Ohio

UPDATE: The keynote and breakout sessions submitted have been approved for Counselor and Social Worker CPE by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. There will be a total of 15 CPE’s available to participants who attend the full conference.

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES: Head Start Family Services staff must possess an understanding of cultural dynamics and apply expert skills in engaging and partnering with families.  Highly qualified presenters from diverse areas of academia and social service will help participants understand the unique issues faced by the families we serve, and engage participants in strategies to improve their professional practice. The conference will include a focus on the Head Start Parent, Family and Community Engagement Framework as a tool to improve individual and programmatic practices to engage families and support children’s ongoing learning and development, along with an emphasis on effective supervision and ethical practice.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Individuals who work closely with families such as Family Services Staff, Supervisors and Home Visitors, and especially those who are responsible for assisting families in setting and achieving goals.

We will also have a limited number of spaces in the “Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors” training – a 12 hour training that will run the entire conference. Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors is a peer-to-peer training program that seeks to improve the outcomes of our nation’s Latino children by focusing on building the capacity and confidence of parents to be strong and powerful advocates in the lives of their children.

All conference content (with the exception of the Abriend Puertas/Opening Doors session) has been submitted to the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board for CEU approval. All content will be submitted for Step Up to Quality Specialized Training approval.
